Rowdy Penguin Productions

“Woodworking is my zen time – a day in the shop is excellent to decrease the stress of life and create something.”

Retired Navy Chief Petty Officer David Plance is the mastermind behind Rowdy Penguin Productions, a local woodworking company based in Citrus Heights. With over 10 years of experience, David values the creative process of designing to meet each person’s needs.

Established in 1984, Rowdy Penguin handcrafts everything from furniture to cutting boards to candle holders. You’ll find the perfect gift from their line of keepsake boxes, wall art pieces, coasters, coin displays, and many other home décor items.  Many projects are singular and others are repeated, but each is unique in its own right – thanks to the beautiful wood grains, textures, and finishes.

To add another personal & professional touch, each first-time purchase comes with a unique Rowdy Penguin challenge coin featuring the penguin inside a saw blade on the front. On the back of the coin is a block plane to represent woodworking and a Navy Chief anchor to acknowledge his time spent in the service.

At our event on May 5th, look for new items like their lighted California state flags (pictured) and new laser engraved items.  Speaking of lasers, Rowdy Penguin now offers laser engraving on most items to add that personal touch!

Noelle Walsh Jewelry

River City Marketplace is made possible with the generous contributions from our brand and community sponsors. Read more about each sponsor's business and pay them a visit at our next event!

With a son, 3 cats and a pit bull rescue, Noelle Walsh is “just itching at the chance to support our family and our beliefs by doing something I love.”

Under her popular and eponymous brand, Noelle creates minimalist handmade jewelry for the modern woman. Her cohesive collection is comprised of earrings and necklaces in brass, black, silver and gold formed into beautifully balanced geometric shapes and bold lines. The clean, focused design creates a striking elegance.

On top of being aesthetically gorgeous, this collection of sustainable hypoallergenic jewelry is available at an affordable price point – Especially considering how many pieces are one-of-a-kind!

Our favorite element about Noelle’s brand: Almost all of her earrings are named after the first woman who buys that style! The recently released “Lauren” is a pair of black and brass chandelier earrings “for when badassery is a requirement but you still want to have lightweight earrings.”

Along with amazing current work, Noelle Walsh Jewelry will be showcasing two new lines at our May 5th event -- A limited release of hand-cut, one of a kind pieces and a brand new Summer collection! She also accepts custom requests and wholesale orders.

“Sacramento is a bustling gem of a city, focused on great food, local agriculture, and local artisans. It is thrilling to be in the heart of all of this magic.”

Refill Madness

River City Marketplace is made possible with the generous contributions from our brand and community sponsors. Read more about each sponsor's business and pay them a visit at our next event!

In less than 18 months since opening, Refill Madness is celebrating an impressive milestone: Over 10,000 refills have been completed in their store!

How does one single Midtown retail store prevent tens of thousands of pieces of plastic from entering the waste stream, each taking up to 1,000 years to biodegrade?

It’s delightfully simple: They provide bulk quantities of eco-friendly products for customers to purchase portions of using in their own containers. Not only is less packaging consumed, but the cost is lowered when product packing is not a factor.

Owner Sloane Read stocks the store with name-brand products for the home and personal care. Load up on essentials like laundry & dish detergent, then treat yourself to body scrubs, lip balms and moisturizers. There’s even goat milk dog shampoo and locally-made bath bombs!

When you consider that the average American throws away approximately 185 pounds of plastic each year, it’s easy to see why Sloane is so committed to doing her part to minimize her impact – And providing the opportunity for shoppers to do the same.

Gather up those empty jars & bottles and venture over to 1828 29th Street in Sacramento. Let’s work together to reach that 20,000th refill in no time!

Refill Madness: Open Tuesday through Friday from 10-6 and weekends from 10-3.

Lowenherz Leather

River City Marketplace is made possible with the generous contributions from our brand and community sponsors. Read more about each sponsor's business and pay them a visit at our next event!

Perfect example of my constant hustle: I always have several projects going at once, each at different stages. Leather waiting to be tooled, leather waiting to be carved, stencils in the middle of being drawn, a wallet being stitched in the stitching pony... and all of this on the counter of my clothing store, in between customers.

Rachel Figueroa and her mother, Evelyn Kuehn, run a women’s clothing boutique in historic downtown Lincoln that offers both vintage finds and current trends. That’s where you’ll find Rachel meticulously crafting new pieces for Lowenherz Leather, the brand they started in 2015.

Lowenherz Leather offers a gorgeous and ever-growing collection of handbags and accessories, all carefully cut by hand and then individually dyed, tooled, stamped and assembled. The variety is truly impressive; there are oxblood red floral stamped totebags alongside spotted fur-on cowhide over-the-shoulder satchels.

There are even gifts for the guys, with leather flasks, can cozies and custom belts!

Rachel works primarily in cow and pig hides, with accents of suede and metal. As animal hides vary in pigment and markings, each item crafted from them is distinctly unique, ensuring that each item is one of a kind! You don’t have to be a cowgirl to appreciate the craftsmanship and care that go into each piece.

We take pride in our work and are dedicated to providing you with quality and beauty in every piece. Everything we sell is cut, tooled, dyed, and assembled completely by us.

Shop Lowenherz Leather’s beautiful, durable and unique collection at River City Marketplace on Saturday! Until then, find them online and at their very own Bluhen boutique in Lincoln.

Bloom Mobile Boutique

River City Marketplace is made possible with the generous contributions from our brand and community sponsors. Read more about each sponsor's business and pay them a visit at our next event!

What is Bloom? It's a truck with stuff for sale, there's that. It's also my vision of shopping bliss; a beautiful little place with some great gifts and ideas for the house.

A summery white and pink GMC workhorse previously used for newspaper and florist deliveries now beautifully showcases an assortment of goodies, from hand-dipped dishes housing sage green succulents to lush patterned throw blankets. And don’t even get us started on the swoon-worthy accessories selection.

With a keen eye for Instagram-worthy product merchandising, owner Jodi Pyle has managed to transform the bright space into a little haven of shopping bliss. New inventory is on regular rotation, ensuring a fresh selection for her growing local fanbase.

Bloom Mobile Boutique came to fruition on December 2, 2016 in honor of her late Mother, Virginia. When Jodi told her Mom about her inspiration to renovate an old truck and turn it into a mobile boutique, "[her Mom] simply said that everyone has to follow their dreams."

Since then, Jodi has journeyed with her truck all throughout greater Sacramento, parking alongside fellow mobile businesses to bring a bit of style & sweetness to each event. We’re so thrilled to host Bloom at all five River City events this season!

I used to tell my parents that I was going to be a truck driver when I grew up, and I love that in a way, now I am.

Follow Jodi on Instagram to preview what new goodies are in Bloom (cheesy pun, we know) for the weekend and indulge in a few sweet images of Charlie, her adorable golden retriever.

The Kitchenwitch

With names like Wizard’s Magic Beard Oil and Green Goddess Anointed Ointment, The Kitchenwitch collection of “whimsical oils, lotions and potions” sound just as enchanting as they do effective!

This impressive collection of “bodycare with a purpose” covers the whole spectrum of health needs. The Nerve & Joint Massage Cream is a great answer for those suffering from pain and numbness associated with nerve damage or joint inflammation. There is even a smudge blend of white sage, frankincense, mugwort and cedar that “helps clear the bad vibes and uplift winter blues moods.”

Andie Cunningham, the brainchild behind The Kitchenwitch, created the company with inspiration from her passion of providing her family with a natural, chemical-free, organic lifestyle.

I have an insatiable need to be creating, always, whether that be making healing potions, growing healthy organic veggies and magical herbs in my garden, feeding my family good food, or painting works of art that are inspired by my love of music and dancing.

As a magical mama of three, Andie also offers playful and purposeful treats for the little ones, as well. Sensory Dough is a crowd-favorite, coming in a rainbow of color options, each with a distinct scent! Glitter Rollers and Sensory Balls will keep tiny hands busy, while still being crafted from child-friendly ingredients. Have a new Mama in mind? We swear by the rose quartz Baby Bump Butter! Or pick her up a bottle of the Diaper Spray to make doodie duty a bit more manageable.

Not quite finding what you’re on the hunt for? Andie loves the opportunity to create new products and the reward of helping her loyal customers receive exactly what they need. Some of her most popular products were born in collaboration with customer requests or after success with limited edition batches!

Explore the magic of The Kitchenwitch collection on Saturday, April 1st at Fremont Park -- You'll be able to create your own signature body & room spray that will have everyone under your spell.

Figs and Feathers Farm

River City Marketplace is made possible with the generous contributions from our brand and community sponsors. Read more about each sponsor's business and pay them a visit at our next event!

There is magic in soapmaking--it's the perfect balance between art and chemistry. It allows us to make something beautiful (or on occasion, catastrophic). It can reflect our mood, our style, our passions. It tells a story of creativity and joy. It can be an outlet for sadness, grief, or an aide as we trudge through life's hardships. It is not a simple bar of soap you are buying; it is a piece of someone's heart and soul, perhaps even their livelihood. It really is a wonder.

Self-care is a practice that has exponential benefits. Your body, mind, and spirit all deserve attention to help you be your healthiest and happiest self possible. Choosing all natural, sustainable products is the best gift you can give your skin!

Meghan Wright is an mateur herbalist, aspiring aromatherapist, hobby farmer, and owner of Figs and Feathers Farm. She is inspired by nature’s simplicity and is ambitiously aiming to bring comfort and healing back to the rituals of bathing.

With a gorgeous collection of soaps, salves, balms and soaks, her vision has certainly come to fruition! All Figs and Feathers Farm products are crafted from organic vegetables and herbs, harvested responsibly and sustainably. Plus, they contain no artificial colorants, fragrances or preservatives.

It all begins with an inspiring idea, maybe it's a scent wafting through the air on a breezy summer day or perhaps another crafter's amazing work. You decide that today is a soapmaking day.

To achieve end results that are so beautiful and natural, quite a bit of science goes on behind the scenes. Meghan explains that many of her soaps were developed on her own using “tried and true mathematical formulas.” Soapmaking also requires safety equipment, specific pots & pans, molds, scales, oils, and the essential element of time.

Figs and Feathers Farm offers an array of products that make the perfect gift to yourself and others. Want to pamper your bestie for her upcoming wedding? We like the Rose & Clay Bath Soak and perhaps some Tub Tea.  Need a birthday goodie for your husband, but the last thing he needs is another t-shirt? Try The Charcoal Bar or The Oatmeal Bar. Is it time for some personal TLC? Pick up Wildcrafted Self-Heal Salve and Mood Elevator Roll-On Oil, then book a few hours to yourself to just unwind.

These products and more will be available during the first 2017 River City Marketplace event on April 1st at Fremont Park! Compile your shopping list in advance by visiting figsandfeathersfarm.com or connecting with Meghan on Instagram!

It doesn’t stop there: They have a full bakery, meat counter and deli, and their Health & Beauty department offers hundreds of products for a variety of skin types and health issues.

Best of all, you’ll feel good sharing in the bounty of a business that will be locally owned forever, a business with integrity that supports the local community and at the same time builds connections with our local growers.

They even host an educational series offering something for everyone - from cooking classes and wellness seminars to gardening workshops and farm to work events - to make connections about important food, health and environmental issues. They even have regular classes for kids and teens!

To show their commitment to community, the Co-Op outreach team participates in dozens of events like farmers markets and health fairs each year and welcomes local school children and groups from around the world.

We can’t wait to visit their brand new 42,000 sq ft location at 28th and R Streets, celebrating its Grand Opening from October 28-30. Follow their progress on the Sac Co-Op website and absolutely gorgeous Instagram feed!

Foxes and Robbers

Old world craft meets modern style with jewelry artist Desiree Chow’s collection, Foxes and Robbers. Since 2009, she has been creating finely handcrafted bead embroidery jewelry in her Oakland studio.

Inspired by the vintage, nature, and the needs of today's women, Foxes and Robbers designs reflect an aesthetic of classical decadence fused with modern sensibilities. With much of the collection comprised of one-of-a-kind pieces, you’re sure to find the perfect necklace to suit your personal style.

Despite the appearance of weightiness, all pieces are deceivingly light in weight. They can be worn comfortable all day and into the night to fit the lifestyles of today's busy and on-the-go professionals who still adore breathing their strong and creative personalities into their daily wardrobe.

Pieces from the line range from $65 for the Memento Mori and Little Treasures collections to $120-135 for those crafted from gorgeous natural stone. Desiree even collaborated on a collection of one-of-a-kind necklaces featuring the colorful, abstract watercolor paintings of fellow Oakland artist Jared McGriff.

View the Foxes and Robbers collection on October 8th at Fremont Park! Until then, connect with Desiree on Instagram or Facebook to get a sneak peek of the perfect piece to take home.
